MobileNOW! Cell Phone Payment System Part of First U.S. Pilot Test of New SmartMeter®

MobileNOW! is Part of County’s Business Innovation Network

December 19, 2008 Rockville Innovation Center (RIC) tenant MobileNOW!, a provider of digital permit and mobile payment solutions, has a cell phone payment system being used in conjunction with new technology from StreetSmart Technology LLC, to create a new SmartMeter®, being piloted on just over 50 parking meters in downtown Decatur, Georgia.

“We are very confident that drivers in our pilot test area will really go for the ease and convenience this new system,” said MobileNOW! President Krista Altok Tassa.  “Our ParkNOW! system offers a convenient way to pay by cell phone for on-street, off-street and permit parking and our technology can also support mobile ticketing for public transportation, movies, museums, sporting events and more.”

MobileNOW!, the exclusive U.S. distributor for digital permitting and mobile payment solutions developed by NOW! Innovations, joined the County’s incubator system this past summer as a virtual tenant, and has plans to lease physical office space at RIC in early 2009.

When drivers arrive at a SmartMeter® space, they call into MobileNOW!'s automated line displayed on the meter and follow the phone prompts to enter the space number posted. StreetSmart's system then posts the time on their meter. Other cell phone parking payment systems have lacked this feature until now.  Live operators also are available.

“Montgomery County is proud that MobileNOW!, an emerging, global leader in mobile and digital technology platforms, chose our Rockville Innovation Center and we wish them continued success with their U.S. pilot test of the SmartMeter,” said Montgomery County Department of Economic Development (DED) Director Dr. Pradeep Ganguly. “We look forward to their local market penetration and future growth and success here in the County.”

SmartMeter’s® unique service springs from exclusive StreetSmart technology and a cell phone payment system from MobileNOW!, which also provides solutions for traffic management, automated utility metering and SMS based communications.

MobileNow in Decatur, Georgia

November 7, 2008  When Decatur Mayor Bill Floyd pulls into the parking lot in front of City Hall at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, fumbling for change at the city's surface parking meters could become a thing of the past.

Thanks to a new system from StreetSmart Technology LLC (www.streetsmarttechnology.com) and MobileNOW! (www.mobilenowsolutions.com) being piloted in Decatur, GA, putting time on the meter is as easy as dialing the phone.  Decatur's single-slot parking patrons can call a central number posted on the meter and charge their parking time remotely.

Users arrive at the space, call into MobileNOW!'s automated line displayed on the meter and follow the phone prompts to enter the space number also posted there. StreetSmart's system then posts the time on their meter. Other cell phone parking payment systems have lacked this feature until now. Live operators also are available.  The first visit is free. Then, drivers can go to www.goparknow.com , fill out a form with their credit card of choice. The account can be drawn down as needed, so they always have money for the meter.

SmartMeter(R)s could help Decatur increase its parking revenue and reducing the cost of meter enforcement.  "This technology will help motorists and merchants alike," said Lyn Menne, Decatur's Assistant City Manager.

The SmartMeter(R) test uses 54 of about 400 parking meters in downtown Decatur. If the pilot is successful, the SmartMeter(R) system eventually will expand to all of Decatur's parking meters. This unique service springs from exclusive StreetSmart technology and a cell phone payment system from MobileNOW! The system is efficient and convenient for drivers and city officials alike.

"It's a great example of how our technology can make parking and parking management easier," said Kirby Andrews, Managing Agent for StreetSmart Technology.

MobileNOW! President Krista Altok Tassa predicts drivers will go for the new system. "We are confident that motorists in Decatur will enjoy the convenience," she said.

StreetSmart Technology LLC is a leader in the field of remote asset management, helping towns and cities across the country monitor and maintain their geographically distributed assets.

MobileNOW! serves as the exclusive U.S. distributor for digital permitting and mobile payment solutions developed by NOW! Innovations in Estonia (www.nowinnovations.com).
